4 tips for getting your home ready to sell

With the housing market continuing to heat up, you might be starting the process of selling your home. So how can you make sure that your home is appealing to potential buyers? Here are four tips for getting your home ready to sell this year.

Make any necessary repairs

The idea of doing a complete renovation does appeal to some home sellers, but you need to make sure that what you’ll put in, you’ll get out. That’s why it might be better to fix the smaller things, like sticking doors, and any walls that might need a fresh coat of paint. Prioritise anything that has cracks or is peeling as those aspects can instantly turn a buyer off.

Declutter

When potential buyers are considering a new home, they want to be able to picture themselves living there. If there’s a lot of clutter and personal belongings around, this can make it harder for them to see it as a potential home for themselves. Use selling a house as a good chance to clean up and declutter everything – it’ll make it much easier for you when you need to move to your new home too.

Keep it neutral

If you are going to redecorate a little, make sure you keep everything neutral. Not everyone likes dramatic finishings like brightly patterned wallpaper, or unsettling art on the walls. Depending on where you’re at with the process of buying your own new home, it might be a good idea to pay a bit extra to have your home professionally styled. Interior designers know very well what will appeal to potential buyers and you might just increase your chances of a sale.

Think about your street appeal

The outside of your house is the first thing a potential buyer sees when they arrive at an open home. Even if your online photos are professional and show off your interior well, a tired, unkempt exterior can be very off-putting. Take some time to get into your garden and get rid of any weeds, trim any trees or hedges, and give your fence a fresh lick of paint. Don’t forget to clean the outside of your windows and doors too!
