Glen Bremner

FINANCIAL ADVISER

I love being able to help people protect what is important to them and give them the confidence to make real improvements to their financial health.

“I work with my clients to make sure that when someone has an unforeseeable health crisis, they don’t also have a preventable financial crisis.”

Glen Bremner

I never foresaw the serious diagnosis I ended up with. When that day came, I was unprepared, as you might expect.

When I contacted Glen, he got back to me that same day, and we arranged a meeting where we talked through the whole situation. Glen was able to advise me exactly what my coverage included and what kind of support I could expect. Glen and his team went to bat for me. Everything he told me he could do for me, got done. It took so much pressure off me and allowed me to concentrate on two other key things in my life – my job and my health & welfare.

I am so thankful that I had someone as personable and knowledgeable as Glen taking charge of those aspects of my care. I just stopped worrying about any financial issues, and continued to contact Glen whenever I needed to. And he never let me down.

JAMES MCLARTY

I made an appointment and Glen came to the house to discuss cover for both of us. He advised that my husband was already on the best plan, but he proposed moving me to a different company. I went along with it happily enough, but without any expectation that it would make a massive difference to my life.

Less than one year later, I suddenly got an aggressive cancer diagnosis, despite being in my 40s with no family history or lifestyle risk factors. Several medical staff have told me how lucky I am to have such a good insurance package: I’m getting stellar treatment and my insurance is funding items that my previous package would not have funded, yet with much the same premium. The cost of treatment has already run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Glen‘s input has included everything from knowing what my policy covers – benefits that I had forgotten about or never really knew what they meant – to getting the all-important approvals from the insurance company and dealing with the endless flow of invoices and receipts.

Overall words cannot express how grateful I am to Glen and Haven: especially for Glen‘s deep knowledge of insurance options and his motivation to get the best deal for every client, as well as his enormous assistance with getting my claims approved and processed. It only costs a couple of hours of your time, but getting the best insurance advice before you need it could well be the most important investment you will ever make.

My professional history

I have been a Financial Adviser working with Haven for 7 years after making the career move from teaching in secondary schools. People often ask me how I could move from teaching to insurance as they seem totally different, however some of the aspects I enjoyed most in teaching are still part of my job now. These include meeting people from many different backgrounds and helping others make improvements in their lives. I work with my clients to make sure that when someone has an unforeseeable health crisis, they don’t also have a preventable financial crisis.

The best thing about being an adviser

Before I worked in the financial services, I always felt on the back foot when it came to insurances, mortgages, accounting and Kiwisaver. I know many Kiwis want to make sure these areas of their life are under control but lack the understanding of how to get the best results for themselves. Now, I am able to help people protect what is important in their life and give them the confidence to make real improvements to their financial health. These are tangible ways people can protect the lifestyle of their family and help provide a better financial future.

My favourite claim story

A claim that highlighted to me the importance of having some cover and working with the client’s needs was when a client of mine was diagnosed with lung cancer, only 6 months after we put cover in place. They previously only had medical cover and didn’t think they could afford life or trauma cover. When we worked out their risk profile, they should have had around $1400/mth worth of cover, however the clients had told me their maximum budget increase was more like $10-$20/wk. We ended up putting in place $19/wk worth of cover and got some life and trauma cover in place. Only 6 months later, at claim time, that meant they had a $25,000 payout to help them with the financial burden of being unable to work while recovering from a major illness. Having that money was a massive stress relief for them at an already very stressful time in their lives.
